When you live in Dubai, you certainly have lots of choice – a variety of styles, colors, materials, textures and even prices – from cheap area rugs to palace worthy carpets. Rugs form an important part of a home in Middle Eastern culture.
At present, many of you may be ordering your rugs online from Morocco, Turkey or India. Here are our suggestions of places to look for rugs in Dubai.
Ethically sourced
Avioni Home - a small homegrown company focused on sharing with you their passion for colors, textures and soft furnishings. Headquartered in Panipat, India, a city widely known as the “City of Weavers”. The rugs are carefully handpicked from small and medium manufacturers located throughout India and they strive to source ethically and fair trade compliant products. Many of the items are individually woven on handlooms by weavers whose skills have been passed down through many generations.
Tribe Dubai – Sustainable, Handmade, Ethically sourced. They have a collection of rugs made from wool, cotton, viscose and jute. Every one of the rugs has a cotton backing and braided edge on the underside to provide strength and stability, ensuring that the rug will look as good as new for many years.
The Loom Collection – The lovely collection of uniquely designed rugs are artisan made and ethically produced. All the rugs are hand woven in Northern India, using traditional techniques to create floor rugs that are warm and classic. You can also borrow free rug samples for up to 4 rugs for a maximum of 3 hours, to test out how the rugs look in your home.
Zuleya – a retail brand in the UAE that sells carpets and handicrafts made by the Fatima Bint Mohamed Bin Zayed initiative (FBMI) in Afghanistan, with all profits being reinvested into FBMI. Zuleya has its flagship showroom in Dubai Design District (D3). Their process is 100% organic and 100% made in Afghanistan – from purchasing wool from nomads, to spinning wool to yarn, dyeing, designing and hand-knotting the carpets. It is a truly sustainable initiative and a highly successful social enterprise.
